Bilateral Talks at O’Smach Advance Border Cooperation and Trust Building
Phnom Penh, October 17, 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia announced that, at the invitation of the Head of the Secretariat of Thailand’s 2nd Army Area, the Head of the Secretariat of the Cambodia–Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) of Cambodia’s 4th Military Region held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Head of the Thai RBC Secretariat on October 17, 2025, at the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint.
The Cambodian delegation was led by Brigadier General Nith Narong, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 4th Military Region and Head of the Cambodian RBC Secretariat, while the Thai delegation was headed by Colonel Yuthasat Setthchai, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Military Region and Deputy Head of the Thai RBC Secretariat.
During the meeting, both sides discussed several key agenda items under the mandate of the Regional Border Committee (RBC). The discussions aimed to prepare for concrete and constructive actions in line with the directives of the General Border Committee (GBC) of the two countries. These topics also built upon the outcomes of the First Extraordinary RBC Meeting, held on August 27, 2025, between Cambodia’s 4th Military Region and Thailand’s 2nd Army Area.
As a result of the talks, both delegations agreed to strengthen communication and coordination, both through direct meetings and existing bilateral channels, to enhance mutual trust and confidence.
The Ministry underscored that this meeting was a continuation of the momentum created by the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Malaysia, which led to the successful ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, to de-escalate tensions along the border, and to advance practical cooperation that promotes peace, stability, and a rapid return to normalcy between the two neighboring nations.
